Mission, vision & values
Celebrancy in Australia marked its 50th year in 2023, having first been introduced by the Hon Lionel Murphy QC whilst he was Attorney-General. His vision was for all couples and families to be able to have a ceremony of their choice and for Australian Civil Celebrants to provide the best celebrations in the western world – which we believe we do. The ACQ was formed in 2008 to give expert support to members with inclusion and connection, and to take on a mentoring role when requested. ACQ is a wholly volunteer run association.

The ACQ is a proud member of the Coalition of Celebrant Associations (CoCA) who are recognised as the peak national body by the Attorney-General’s Department. The AG’s Dept and CoCA meet twice yearly in Canberra, where we have a direct voice to raise and discuss celebrancy laws and issues.
